Then he served us the "bottled" water we'd ordered, conveniently 'opening' it on the way to the table. The pyrrhic gaining of a couple bucks on us, cost him and his waitress a $15 tip on the meal for three. - WheezyTHAO, PETERhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13744302951149594598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2509307746081607738.post-70589127819213223602009-07-08T13:20:13.847-04:002009-07-08T13:20:13.847-04:00Re: the high-priced bottled water in hotels. There's a lovely scene in Slumdog Millionaire where one of the brothers has a menial job in a hotel kitchen... refilling water bottles from the tap and crazy gluing caps back on. I wonder where the filmmakers got such an idea?Bill Andersenhttp://ripple.canoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2509307746081607738.post-80538248877876895012009-06-25T04:01:12.041-04:002009-06-25T04:01:12.041-04:00Hi Peter,

The touts are a real pain and to an average tourist, they give the impression that the whole of India is like that which is not true.
You are right about those badly dressed tourists. They give the impression that they are poor but like you said, their travel budget in India is many years wage for an overwhelming number of Indians. But then, it is their money, their time, their life lifestyle and I guess we dont have a right to comment on that.
I hope you are having a great time. I thought a lot about the missed oppurtunity to ride through North East India with you. maybe sometime...And thanks a lot for that mention of me in your blog.
